tuesday

i feel oddly lighthearted about tuesday. normally tuesday is vaguely disappointing because it's hardly anywhere near friday, but this week, despite feeling indisposed from a cold and sore throat, and improper outerwear for this sudden chill in fairfax, virginia, i find myself smiling up at the rich blue sky and feeling giddy with memories of happy childhood autumns, of pumpkin carving and jumping in huge piles of raked up leaves. can't we rake some leaves up outside the admissions office and jump in them? i would pay good money to see darryl do that, actually.

I can relate to them giddy autumn feelings! I declared it as my favorite season a few years ago and haven't looked back. I think it's the apple cider, jack-o-lanterns, and the warm spectrum of leaf colors. I also think, after summer vacations and extended spells of t-shirt weather activity, it a time to settle back down in the house--sort of like a homecoming. Literally, too, when you talk about alumni and football. Yeah, I'm thinking that, in additiona to the natural splendor of fall, it's the homey feelings that does it. Thanksgiving!

In Gettysburg there's the whole ghost tour scene in the cold dark-as-coal nights; ain't no halloween like a Gburg halloween. Say, what will you be this halloween?

autumn is indeed lovely, and i agree that it evokes that cozy feeling of wanting to curl up inside with a cup of hot cocoa after being out all day in the brisk air. mmm homecoming and thanksgiving!
